Darn, I see I did not fully respond. On the issue of them telling her she should continue to work - I think someone is dreaming in Technicolour.
On the one hand there are claims that she is not being treated fairly because of her mixed race, on the other hand there are claims that she is being told she has to continue to work ...okay, for what it's worth. An actress of non-Royal lineage is no more acceptable than any commoner would be. An actress, married to the prince and continuing to work ...I don't think so. Totally unacceptable.
Sending her out to carry on with her not incredibly successful carreer in the movies really does not seem a likely request from anyone in the family. If that was said, I wonder if perhaps it was said just as a nasty jibe by some highly placed staffer or even Harry's brother?
Snobs - yes. Traditionsts - yes. I am willing to bet if she had royal blood from another place, they would not give a darn about her mixed background.
The whole royal thing goes back for a very long time and is a tradition. It may be a traditition that people no longer want, but as long as it is there, they are going to try like mad to maintain the traditions. Some of the traditions sit badly with people.
Never-the-less - it is customery to keep the Royal line untainted. they do not like "commoners"
If she really DID contemplate suicide, I feel bad for her. I have been there. I am a Manic Depressive and the suicide thought crosses my mind frequently.
I think that she could have been as black as ebony, but if she came from a royal background, they would have been happy to welcome her.
