Ditching a Publication

Too cool. Acrylic painting by Louise Peacock

We write stuff. We hope someone will read it. Here on Medium we join or are invited to join a Publication. Wow! We are super elated. We have arrived, we are in a PUBLICATION.

For sure it makes you feel really good to get your articles, etc. into a Publication … but.

The “but” happened to me first with a publication called The Bullshit.ist. After the first year, I noticed that the rate of acceptance for my articles in that publication had begun to dwindle. By that time I had become involved in other publications, and didn’t worry too much. I chanced to check it out recently and it is totally changed. It is purely about technology and seems to be in limbo. Out the door it goes.

I joined a publication called Snapshots which I love, and which I am always pleased to read and check the work of fellow “Snapshotters” and to have my work included. Through Snapshots I have “met” a lot of great people.

I also became involved in two Erika Sauter publications: The Crazy Cat Lady Photo Blog and Hopes and Dreams for Our Future. I really enjoy Erika. She is a force to be reckoned with, excellent writer, interesting person, cat lover and it was my pleasure to have my material included in Hopes and Dreams. I also “met” a lot of interesting writers through that.

Recently, Erika handed over Hopes and Dreams to another publisher.

I was hopeful that the change would be a good thing. But. (Here comes the “but”). But they just ditched the Poetry section of the publication. That was the last straw.

Hopes and Dreams no longer fits my style. Also, I preferred Erikas’ leadership and her publisher style. So out the door it goes.

If it aint fun, I don’t do it.

But I still have my friends at Snapshots, human-basics, The Crazy Cat Lady Photoblog and a few others.
