Honeysuckle
Here Today, Gone Tomorrow …
We have two types of Honeysuckle in our garden. One is a shrub variety and the other a very invasive vine.
The shrub variety, which I believe is the Northern Honeysuckle Bush, flowers first. It is coming into bloom right now (May 21), A few days ago it had a few buds, but now the whole plant is covered with fragrant flowers. In a few days, these will dry up and fall off.
There are various different Honeysuckle vines. We have one called Japanese Honeysuckle. It is extremely vigorous and flowers much later, in June.
Since many of the gardens I tend are shady, I am always on the lookout for plants that will flower and do well in shaded locations. Some of the Honeysuckle Vines that will grow in the shade include Dropmore Scarlet and Halls.
