I am so glad you liked the story, Dennett.

That little old donkey and I had a great friendship and he lived for some years after I got him.

Many times I cried adolescent tears of frustration into his stubby mane late at night. I would sneak out of my bedroom window and across the garden to the shed opposite and lie down beside him in the straw.

Eventually, when I had plans to leave Portugal (when I turned 21) I was concerned that he would have no one to take care of him and I gave him to a family that had a very young daughter that was obviously an animal lover. I like to think it worked out well.

By the way …

It was because I was perusing the Weeds and Wildflower pub that I actually saw the prompt. Even though my name is listed, Medium did not send me a notification, as it has failed to do for almost all prompts from everyone. I wonder why? Any thoughts?
