I bet if you go to your stats page, look at your story that generated the looks, then look at Details (on the far right under the title) and check where those looks came from you will see most came from outside Medium. - Google, Samsung, etc. It has something to do with tags is as far as I have managed to find out, after I had several unexpected "spurts"
