I kind of see, but I also suspect many (like our stupid government) are reluctant to interfere so as to keep their noses clean.

To me one of the most disturbing factors is the mental instability of Putin. I think that he really has gone off the deep end - believing, as you said, that he can do anything.

If this rings alarms bells to his supporters, that would be good. However, unless china back off tells him to take a hike, that won't help much.

Even if other countries do not get agressive with Putin, I strongly suspect that he might hit Ukraine with a nuke. His attitude being "fine, you bastards won't give in, I'll show you". So, either way we are likely to have a WW3.

These are truly disturbing times, Alan, and I am very thankful that my time here is not just starting.
