I limit the number of publications to which I contribute.

I write because I like to. Evs monetizing plan doesn't work for me.

I really DO write to please myself. I run three silly publications because I want to. I contribute more or less regularly to three other publications.

I have had run-ins with editors who chose to over edit and use other people's photos because they thought them better than my own ... oh well.

Screw them. LOL
