Lines from one of my favorite sonnets come to mind "Words are easy, like the wind;Faithful friends are hard to find:"

I think that people really do mean well when they offer help and comfort, but in reality they really do not have the ability to follow through.

Of course it is disappointing and certainly does not help at all when this happens.
