Love Note to the new CEO
Welcome Tony Stubblebine
Tony Stubblebine I just received a nice email from you regarding filling out a survey.
You said that “The first reason I’m reaching out to you is because in my experience Medium has given mixed messages over the years about how it feels about our open platform. “Open Platform” is the term we use for publications like yours that publish outside of the Medium paywall. So I wanted to start my tenure here at Medium by saying that I am 100% glad you publish on Medium and that I would like us to do a better job of serving you.”
You further said, chattily, that you would love to hear from me, and would I fill out a survey.
As soon as I clicked on the “survey” link, I got a warning from my system, telling me
“Link Mismatch. The link you just clicked seems to lead to another site than what the link text indicated. This is sometimes used for tracking whether you clicked the link, but it could also be a scam.
The link text indicated that the link would lead to userresearching.typeform.com, but it leads to medium-a7e301761373.intercom-clicks.com.
Well, Tony, I’m sorry, but much as I would LOVE to fill in your survey, I cannot ignore this warning.
I WILL tell you that I love being a writer and publisher on Medium. I write and publish for fun, not for money, which is why I am on your so-called “Open Platform”. Perhaps you mention it as a subtle threat to get on the paywall? I have heard from other publishers that the mat can get pulled by Medium.
Congratulations on your new position. Hope you hang in. I suspect you will probably sell Medium to Google, or Facebook or whoever, but it will be great while it lasts.
