I was told that one of the most important ingredients is Orris root. Blanking out at this description, I eventually found out that Orris root is actually Iris root, from a specific bearded Iris, Iris pallida, or Iris germanica, and that the powdered root is used as a fixative in Potpourri among other products.

Once i began to add this to my own sad attempts at making potpourri, I found the results much better.
