I agree with you that you have to actually take the time to train your dog. Using assorted devices like shock collars, in my opinion, are not really a substitute for proper training.

What do you think about those electronic "fence" things? I have a client that uses one to keep his pup from wandering off the property and it seems to work really well. All other training is done in a standard way - person to dog.
