I too enjoyed the tiny lighted insects as a child, in Portugal. There were so many and I was always fascinated by them.

I do not believe that I have seen any at all here in Canada for the past years.

Darn shame to hear that their numbers are declining, they sound like the ideal insect to help rid the garden of pests like snails and slugs.
