Wikipedia says “ Kalanchoe is a genus of about 125 species of tropical, succulent plants in the stonecrop family Crassulaceae, mainly native to Madagascar and tropical Africa.”, so it IS a tropical plant. It seems to be fairly tolerant of a wide variety of conditions. The ones that I planted in a big pot on the back veranda, surprised me by continuing to flower well into November after temperatures here had dropped to -5 overnight.
