We totally get the "skunked" thing. Some years ago, our big, goofy Shepherd-cross dog came across what he thought was a cute, black and white kitty at the bottom of our garden.

As you experienced - trying to bathe a large dog in the middle of the night, not much fun, and all those "tried and true" skunk smell removing remedies? BS.

It did take many months for the strong smell to dissapate, but it seemed to me that there was always a faint odor around the house after that.
