Thank you very much, Somsubhra.

The spring following the loss of our tree, we planted two new ones. Both are much smaller varieties, so will never be as big as the Maple, but we chose them for their environmental contributions.

The roots of the big tree prevented us from placing a new tree in the same space, so, instead we planted them one on each of that location.

One tree is a Downy Serviceberry which is much loved by birds. It provides white flowers in the spring, edible purple fruit in early summer, and brilliant red, gold and yellow in the fall when the leaves turn with the cooler weather.

The second tree is called a PaperBark Maple. It has interesting bark and foliage and provides seeds for the birds in the late summer and over winter. The leaves turn red and gld in the cooler weather.

Both these trees will grow to a maximum of 20 feet, but this will take a few years.

They will never replace the Maple, but they will add interest and beauty to the front garden and will provide food for the birds,
