Thanks for asking.

I am currently using (On the Vets' suggestion) Hills Science Diet Oral care, along with Royal Canin Multi FunctionRenal Suport.

Yes, I know that RC doesn't get really great ratings for its nutrient content! I tend to be suspicious of these large food companies (pet and people food) and have heard some horror stories about how the food is made and what goes into it.

Anyway, my one cat is really old (18) and has Pancreatitis and 2nd stage Kidney disease. So we feed him the RC multi function, which he loves. He gets only 1/8 of a cup daily. I give him 10 pellets of the Oral care, and the balance of his food is made up of a kidney formula wet food.

Our cats are not free-fed because they tend to pig out and gain weight when left to their own devices. They get 5 supervised meals daily.

So here is the rest of the story. Because there is little one can do to treat Pancreatitis, I turned to using Homeopathy - I dose him with 1 pellet of Iris versicolor 6 daily, and have done for the past 4 years.

The Pacreatitis has not progressed and he is not exhibiting any of the previous symptoms (vomiting yellow bile was one)

Additionally, because I had nothing to lose, I began to use something called Nutra thrive. It is a special powder using a formula of chinese herbs. (I know- flaky, right?).

This powder is sprinkled over the wet food and supposedly makes up for the lack of nutrients in many cat foods. They suggested that it would bring about a change for the better. And, the crazy thing is, it really has made a change after using only the first jar. Also - the cats seem to really like it.

1) his appetite has improved. 2) his energy level is up 3)he has begun to play again. 4)His coat is beautiful

The story behind Nutra Thrive is interesting, The guy that came up with it is a vet. I tried one jar, saw that it really helped, and am now feeding it to both cats.

This vet says that most commercial cat foods have a really big lack of nutrients and claims that his powder make up for these lacks. He says its okay to continue feeding these other foods, but by adding the powder, the missing nutrients will be regained.

You should go to the site and read about how he got started on this idea.
