Nuns dressed as shepherds or the other way round is perfect.

I never had one. My parents used to get me one of those advent calendars with little windows and doors, behind which were tiny chocolates. The artwork was beautiful, depicting a pretty European style town, with a church and cute old fashioned houses. I treasured that calendar for years, well past my childhood, and until the little windows and doors basically wore out.
