Trash Warriors
I think that most rational people see a need to reduce plastic and plastic waste. Our neighbour John is taking it a step further.
John and his wife Liz go through our local park daily and pick up garbage as they walk through.
This is great, but what is NOT great is that they are finding garbage, a lot of it plastic waste on a daily basis.
After months of walking around the neighbourhod and collecting trash, much of it plastic, John has decided that enough is enough.
There is almost nothing that you buy that is not packaged in plastic. Much of that plastic is non-recyclable, and the sad truth is that even if it is recyclable, less than 10 percent of so-called recyclable plastic actually gets recycled.
We can all do our tiny bit by avoiding single use plastic, but what really needs to happen is for governments to stand firmly against large companies that package everything in plastic of all types.
Nestle, Tim Hortons, Costo — just to mention a few — are huge offenders.
John created a wild and crazy costume for himself (which you can see in the photos, and made a sign).
John has a plan to go dressed in his costume on a dry afternoon and stand in front of the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation). It’s a busy place, with people coming and going ll the time, John hopes that some one will notice him and that a reporter will come out to interview him.
His next protest site will be outside Toronto City Hall.

You can help by using re-usable cloth grocery bags and glass drinking straws and putting your drinking water into a re-usable water bottle. (I have a nice thermos bottle.)
