We are in Canada, so I don’t know if the brands we use are available where you are, but we feed a medicated wet food to our senior cat who has advanced kidney disease. It is “essential care senior formula” by Purina and for the younger one we feed “wellness pet food” at the moment we get chicken lobster flavour.
Neither of them gets dry food they refuse to eat it and our vet doesn’t like it for them.
You are right. No pet commercial pet food is actually good. There are no real quality controls in place. Making your own is tricky because of all the nutrients you have to add.
